These videos don’t do the Freemont Street Experience justice but you’ll get the idea hopefully. This is a five block long video screen. It sports a 12.5-million LED display. Every hour, on the hour, they shut down the lights on Freemont Street and have a video show.

Seeing this show reveals to me that the Psychedelic Experience has gone mainstream and been commercialized. People no longer need to take the drugs to see this stuff. It has become part of the fabric of our society.

Hello, I went to Las Vegas over the weekend and I wanted to share my experiences on Freemont Street. Freemont Street is the Old Strip and has a great casino network where one can walk from place to place. It sports places like the Golden Nugget. It also has the Freemont Street Experience. This is where they put a roof over several city blocks of street and embedded LED light into it. It is like a half mile long TV screen. Wow!

Gambling Network in Works for Pennsylvania Taverns?

A lot is on the line in Pennsylvania Gov. Rendell's proposal this week to legalize video poker gambling at bars and nightclubs across Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania State Police that that seventeen thousand illegal poker machines are currently in use - each taking in about six hundred dollars a week.

"Machines receiving heavy play can generate $800 or more per week," said Jack J. Lewis, a state police spokesman. "We estimate that a club having five machines . . . can easily generate over $31,000 per year in profits."

It is estimated that about thirty five thousand machines eventually might be set up in eighty five licensed liquor establishments creating a large gambling network.

"You take one step, and now you are all the way down to putting them in taverns - boom, boom, boom," said Jack Bulavsky, former executive director of the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers.

"As the governor said, [tavern gambling] has been going on in Pennsylvania for many, many years," said Amy Christie, the association's executive director. "The issue right now is that it's totally unregulated."

"If you're talking about regulating what's already there, that's one thing," said Kevin Feeley, spokesman for the Mount Airy Casino Resort in the Poconos and a long-time Rendell ally. "But if you're talking about a wholesale expansion of video poker, that will be a subject of concern."

Captain Tom Butler of the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement said video poker is most active in Western Pennsylvania, especially in social clubs, which often use it for fund-raising.

"There is not a criminal investigation unless there is an extraordinary circumstance," he said.

In some jurisdictions, district attorneys have been aggressive.

Internet Casino News - New Years Eve in Vegas

I spent New Years Eve in Las Vegas. I thought that it would be fun to post an account of my experience on Craig's Internet Casino Network. It was wild! We stayed at Bally's on the Strip. After 7:00 pm they closed off Las Vegas Blvd. and it was bedlam! There were (probably) over a million people in the street. There were people staggering about, women stripping their clothes off, people throwing dollar bills in the air, lots of noise and free drinks in the casinos. It was crazy!

The best part was a world record motorcycle jump by Robbie Maddison. He jumped up on top of the Arch in front of the Paris Casino. It was crazy! See the video above.

Both Sports and Betting are being effected during these recent economic times. Reductions in headcount throughout the industry plague the headlines.
The NFL said Tuesday they would be making over a hundred layoffs, almost ten % of its HQ staff. That came after approximately a thousand assorted NASCAR-related employees being added to the already growing unemployment lines in November, and a 9% staff decrease in the NBA headquarters during October.
In Atlantic City, the Borgota Hotel Casino and Spa laid off four hundred workers last month, approximately 5% of its headcount in one shot. Reports show that almost one thousand casino-attached employees in Atlantic City were laid off in October alone, reaching all the way up to the largest entities such as Caesars and Bally's. All across the casinos in Atlantic City, revenues dropped fifteen% in September, which was the worst single months downturn on record.
